A large police search in Southeast Portland early Friday morning ended with the arrest of a man already wanted in connection with a November shooting that killed a 14-year-old boy.
The Portland Police Bureau said officers first responded around 1:45 a.m. to a report of a possible assault in progress in the Richmond neighborhood. Dispatchers eventually traced the call to Southeast Ivon Street near 38th Avenue.
Police said officers forced entry into a home after developing information that someone inside may have been in immediate danger. When confronted, the suspect allegedly jumped from a second-story window into a backyard and fled on foot.
An assault victim from the home was transported to a hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.
Officers established a perimeter from Southeast Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard to Southeast 37th Avenue and from Southeast Division Street to Southeast Taggart Street. A shelter-in-place alert was issued shortly after 2:30 a.m. Additional resources, including a K9 unit and drone team from the Gresham Police Department, assisted in the search, along with PPB’s K9 unit and surveillance plane.
After searching yard-by-yard for several hours, officers located the suspect hiding inside a trailer parked in a driveway. He was arrested just before 6:40 a.m.
Police identified the suspect as Aquize G. Logan, 25, of Portland. Authorities said Logan was already wanted in connection with a Nov. 16 shooting that killed Marik Roscoe, 14, and injured three others. He had been sought by Portland police homicide detectives and the U.S. Marshals Service.
Logan was booked into jail on warrants including first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree attempted murder, first-degree burglary, two counts of first-degree assault, felon in possession of a firearm, six counts of unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of menacing.
Police said additional charges could be filed related to the early Friday assault as the investigation continues.
