Police in Corvallis have arrested a suspect accused of carrying out a violent assault with a baseball bat at a local park.
According to the Corvallis Police Department, officers responded around noon on March 17 to reports of an attack near the public restrooms at Pioneer Park along Southwest Philomath Boulevard.
Victim attacked during dispute
Investigators say the suspect, identified as James Allen Burke, allegedly struck a 35-year-old victim multiple times with a metal bat. Authorities believe the incident stemmed from a financial dispute involving Burke’s girlfriend.
Emergency responders treated the victim at the scene for injuries sustained in the attack.
Suspect located and arrested
Police said Burke fled the area with a 27-year-old woman before officers arrived. He was later located near First Christian Church at approximately 5:45 p.m. and taken into custody without incident.
Charges and investigation
Burke faces multiple charges, including second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. He was booked into the Benton County Jail.
Authorities noted that Burke has an extensive criminal history, with numerous prior arrests in the area.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police are asking anyone with additional information to come forward.
