A powerful new exhibition about the RMS Titanic sinking is arriving in Portland, offering visitors a rare look at artifacts recovered from the ocean floor.
More than 130 artifacts on display
“Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition” opens March 21 at Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), featuring over 130 items recovered from the wreck.
The exhibition is presented in collaboration with RMS Titanic, Inc., the only company authorized to recover artifacts from the Titanic debris field.
Inside the exhibit: history brought to life
Visitors will see everything from fragments of the ship’s grand staircase to personal belongings such as jewelry, clothing, and shoes—remarkably preserved after more than a century underwater.
The exhibit also includes immersive recreations that help guests experience life aboard the Titanic before its tragic sinking in 1912.
Interactive journey of real passengers
One of the most engaging features is a personalized experience: each visitor receives a boarding pass tied to a real Titanic passenger.
As they move through the exhibit, they follow that individual’s journey—and at the end, discover whether the passenger survived or perished.
Wreck rapidly deteriorating
Experts warn the Titanic wreck is deteriorating quickly due to bacteria eating away at the steel structure.
Recent expeditions show visible changes, including collapsed railings and weakening sections of the ship.
Exhibit runs through October
The exhibition runs through Oct. 18, with timed tickets required in addition to general museum admission.
