A significant stretch of I-64 East was shut down after a fatal crash, according to Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
The crash occurred shortly after 2 a.m. on April 10, based on a Facebook post from Coroner Northcutt.
“I-64 eastbound is currently closed at the 151 Mile Marker in Carter County due to a fatality accident,” he wrote. “If you are traveling east I would recommend traveling on US 60 at this time.”
Transportation officials in Kentucky set up a detour at exit 137 in Morehead to route traffic around the scene. They expected the roadway to reopen around 8 a.m.
The closure runs along eastbound lanes from mile marker 137 to marker 156, according to KYTC’s interactive collision map.

The Morehead Police Department posted on Facebook just before 8 a.m. Friday, announcing that crews were diverting traffic through the city after the deadly crash.
“Traffic is being diverted through Morehead along US 60 and KY 32; please be patient as it’s expected to cause delays,” officers said.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved in the crash. FOX 56 News is working to gather more information.
KYTC officials said crews reopened the area just after 8:30 a.m. Friday. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
