PORTLAND, Ore. — A widespread power outage impacted thousands of residents across the Portland metro area early Saturday, leaving an estimated 14,000 customers without electricity.
Thousands Affected Across Portland
According to Portland General Electric, the outage was reported across multiple neighborhoods, with one of the hardest-hit areas being Multnomah Village in southwest Portland, where roughly 6,000 customers lost power.
Power Restored to Most Customers
Utility officials worked quickly to restore service. By around 10:20 a.m., power had been restored to the majority of affected households, though approximately 2,800 customers were still experiencing outages at that time.
The exact cause of the outage has not yet been confirmed.
Recent Outage Linked to Equipment Damage
The outage comes just days after another disruption in southeast and northeast Portland, where a squirrel reportedly damaged a utility substation, cutting power to thousands.
Ongoing Restoration Efforts
Crews continued working to restore electricity to the remaining affected customers as of late morning. Officials have not yet released additional details or a timeline for full restoration.
