A dog rescued from a retention pond in Happy Valley over the weekend is healthy and will soon be available for adoption, officials said.
Firefighters fromClackamas Fire District located the stranded dog Saturday using a thermal imaging drone after an initial search the day before was unsuccessful due to dense blackberry bushes and thick vegetation.
The dog had been stuck in nearly two feet of water inside a retention pond. The drone detected her heat signature, allowing crews to pinpoint her location and carry out the rescue.
Officials nicknamed the dog “Sweetie” because of her calm and gentle demeanor. She appears to be a Pointer-pit bull mix, according to a spokesperson for the city of Happy Valley.
After the rescue, veterinarians evaluated Sweetie and gave her a clean bill of health. She was not found to have a microchip, and her owner is unknown.
Sweetie will be placed for adoption through Clackamas County Dog Services. Officials said those interested in adopting her can contact the agency to learn more about the process.
