Police in Eugene responded to a large and disruptive gathering Saturday night after hundreds of people crowded into a neighborhood street near the University of Oregon.

According to the Eugene Police Department, the party took place along East 14th Avenue and drew an estimated 1,000 to 1,500 attendees, most of them in their 20s.

Crowd spills into streets

Authorities said the gathering expanded into nearby roads and sidewalks, causing significant disruption in the neighborhood. Officers reported several problems, including public urination, disputes between partygoers and local residents, and intoxicated individuals walking into traffic.

During the incident, a man reportedly fell and struck his head, prompting a medical response.

Police deploy multiple teams

To manage the situation, police brought in additional resources, including officers from the university patrol unit as well as specialized teams such as the Crisis Negotiation Team and a drone unit.

Officers instructed people to leave the area and clear the roadway, and officials said the crowd largely complied.

Arrests and citations issued

Police arrested three individuals on charges including disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. One of those individuals received medical treatment before being transported to the Lane County Jail.

Meanwhile, the department’s Mobile Response Team also took six people into custody at a home located in the 600 block of East 14th Avenue. Those individuals were cited for hosting an unruly gathering and violating local noise regulations.

Authorities say the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
