Authorities shot and killed a suspected intoxicated driver in Clackamas County on Sunday evening following a vehicle pursuit, according to Oregon State Police.
Officers first “contacted” the driver at 6:55 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 26 and East Brightwood Loop Road, after which the driver fled, Oregon State Police said in a statement.
State police and Clackamas County sheriff’s deputies pursued the driver, making a stop near Barlow Trail Roadhouse in Welches, authorities said.
The traffic stop “culminated in a deadly use of force,” Oregon State Police said in the statement. “Gunfire struck a single suspect, who was declared deceased at the scene.”
Authorities said no one else was injured. Officials did not release additional details, including the name of the man who was killed or the identities of the officers.
The Clackamas County Major Crimes Team is investigating the shooting.
A spokesperson for the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office declined to comment, stating the office will provide more information in the coming days.
