Man accused of pointing gun at 7-Eleven employees and stealing merchandise arrested in Sparks

An arrest followed after Sparks police responded to an armed robbery at a 7-Eleven. The incident occurred just before 2:30 p.m. on April 22, 2026 at the store on Silverada Blvd.

According to police, William Mitchell, 25, took approximately $22 worth of merchandise and left without paying. Two employees confronted him outside, and a fight erupted as they attempted to retrieve the items.

During the struggle, Mitchell pulled out a gun and pointed it at both employees, forcing them to back away, police say. He then entered a vehicle and drove off.

Detectives with the Regional Crime Suppression Unit assumed control of the case. Police later located Mitchell in the 700 block of N. Virginia Street and arrested him without incident.

Police also arrested Anthony Jones, 22, in connection to this case, but he faces more serious charges due to another incident that occurred on March 30.

Charges

Mitchell is facing:

  • Robbery with a deadly weapon
  • Assault with a deadly weapon (2 counts)
  • Carrying a concealed weapon without a permit

Jones is facing (in this case):

  • Prohibited person in possession of a firearm

Jones was also booked on additional Reno PD charges tied to a March 30 incident (RPD case 26-6126):

  • Robbery with a deadly weapon
  • Prohibited person in possession of a firearm
  • Carrying a concealed weapon without a permit
  • Assault with a deadly weapon
