A woman has died and a man is now in custody after a verbal dispute escalated into a physical altercation at a west Las Vegas home early Tuesday morning.

Emergency crews responded to a 911 medical call around 3 a.m. at a residence in the 4300 block of Esmeralda Avenue, near Sahara and Arville, after a man told dispatchers that his wife was hurt and needed assistance, authorities said.

Medical personnel entered the home and discovered a woman dead, according to police Lieutenant Robert Price. Authorities deemed the death suspicious and called officers to the scene. Bolden AC officers responded and located the husband, who had placed the initial call.

The man told investigators the couple had argued earlier in the night over his wife wanting to leave with their children, and he said “something bad had happened.” Police said the dispute turned physical, leading to the woman’s death.

Authorities later took the man into custody, adding that the incident appears to be isolated.

A young child who was present was also taken into protective custody by Child Protective Services.
