The US Department of Justice reported Friday that five people were arrested on state counts following a narcotics enforcement operation in the MacArthur Park neighborhood.
Authorities said Rampart Division narcotics officers carried out the operation Thursday evening in the 600 block of South Alvarado Street, across from MacArthur Park.
According to officials, five persons were detained as a result of an active narcotics sales scene, including employees from a nearby business. Authorities reported seizing fentanyl, prescription drugs, and significant amounts of US money. Five individuals were arrested on state counts, and my office is deciding whether to file federal charges with the Drug Enforcement Administration in Los Angeles against them,” said First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli on X.
Earlier this month, during “Operation Free MacArthur Park,” U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration special agents and Los Angeles Police Department detectives detained at least 18 people accused of selling illegal drugs and trafficking in the MacArthur Park neighborhood.
In an interview with NBCLA, Los Angeles Police agency Chief Jim McDonnell stated the agency would continue to engage with federal authorities to combat drugs trafficking.
Essayli also underlined the assurance made to the public of sustained law enforcement presence in the park.
