Dedrick Coates Apprhended In Southwest Baltimore Homicide

A homicide investigation in Southwest Baltimore led police to a home on S. Augusta Avenue on Thursday, where detectives say they apprhended Dedrick Coates, 36, in connection with a mid-May killing. Members of the Warrant Apprehension Task Force apprehended Coates without incident and transferred him to the Central Booking Intake Facility. The arrest stemmed from a case in which a man was discovered shot inside an apartment in early May; police say the investigation is ongoing.

According to a Baltimore Police Department post on X, members of the Warrant Apprehension Task Force detained Coates at a home in the 200 block of S. Augusta Avenue around 12:50 p.m. Thursday and took him to the Central Booking Intake Facility. Police say Coates, 36, has been charged with first-degree murder in the case.

According to local trackers and reports, the victim is Musa Witherspoon, 31, who was found shot inside an apartment on May 5 in the 400 block of S. Gilmore Street and later died in a hospital. WMAR-2 and ShoreNewsNetwork reported on the May shooting and the accompanying homicide investigation as detectives pursued clues.
