A 31-year-old man was taken into custody Saturday after leading police on two separate pursuits through Eagle, sometimes colliding with oncoming traffic.

An Eagle Police Department deputy saw a silver Nissan Maxima speeding through the center divider on Highway 44 and Edgewood Lane at 12:51 p.m. while looking for a suspect in an unrelated fight nearby, according to a press release.

The deputy observed the car speeding at “excessive speeds,” going the wrong way, and passing other vehicles in a dangerous manner. Police tried to stop the automobile. The driver, later identified as Wayne Ricks of Eagle, did not stop, resulting in a brief pursuit. After the automobile entered oncoming traffic lanes on Highway 44 west of Eagle, the deputy came to a stop.

Another Ada County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) officer discovered the car around Highway 44 and Ballantyne Road, where the driver continued to speed and weave into oncoming traffic despite the fact that authorities were no longer following him. A second pursuit started.

The Maxima drove north on Highway 16, east on Beacon Light Road, north on Linder Road, and finally west on Homer Road, a dead-end street. The motorist turned around at the dead end and drove straight toward law enforcement before proceeding to the east end of Homer Road, which is also a dead end. Deputies were able to pin the vehicle when the driver tried to turn around, and he was arrested.

Ricks was medically cleared at a nearby hospital before being booked into the Ada County Jail on two felony charges of fleeing and eluding and aggravated assault, as well as three misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and possession of a controlled substance.
