Three men are charged after allegedly stealing construction equipment from a business in Chicago’s northern suburbs late Sunday night.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office stated that the enquiry began around 11:20 p.m., when the owner of a flatbed trailer called 911.

According to deputies, the owner rented the trailer to someone who did not return it. The trailer had a GPS tracker that indicated it was at a business on the 14200 block of West Rockland Road in unincorporated Libertyville.

When deputies arrived, they discovered Corey Dismukes, 56, of Chicago and Emmanuel Harper, 45, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, near the trailer. The men were reportedly loading two skid steers onto the trailer before taking them.

Deputies also analysed security video from the establishment and discovered that a third person fled as officers arrived.

Sheriff’s K9 Simba followed the suspect for nearly 1.5 miles before discovering him hiding in a neighbouring forest preserve. He was detained and identified as James Yancey, 35, from Chicago Heights.

Sheriff John Idleburg praised the swift reaction of 911 dispatchers, deputies, the K9 team, and the property owner for successfully stopping the burglary. This is the type of teamwork, professionalism, and dedication that our employees show every day to help keep our community secure,” Idleburg stated. “I am proud of our team, grateful the property owner called us immediately, and pleased we were able to recover all of the stolen property.”

Dismukes, Harper, and Yancey were each charged with burglary and felony theft. They were due in court on Monday morning.
