The El Paso District Attorney’s Office said Monday that a former El Paso Police Department officer pled guilty to two third-degree felony counts. He pleaded guilty on June 23.
Joshua Anthony Gallardo, 30, pled guilty to assault restricting respiration or circulation with a dating partner and continuing aggression against the family, according to a news release.
The district attorney’s office stated that Gallardo’s allegations stem from assaults on two victims within a year. In one case, witnesses spotted him assaulting someone in public and intervened until law authorities arrived. According to the announcement, he also assaulted another person within the same period of time.
Gallardo pled guilty to misdemeanor terroristic threat and harassment charges on June 4 after making 552 unsolicited phone calls to the second victim, including a “threatening voicemail,” according to the district attorney’s office.
Gallardo was sentenced to 10 years of community supervision, 30 days in the El Paso County Detention Facility, 500 hours of community service, a $1,000 fine, surrender of his Texas peace officer license, completion of the Batterer Intervention and Prevention Program, and no contact with the victims, according to a news release.
EPPD fired Gallardo in March 2025.
