A 29-year-old man was detained on murder and robbery charges after a fatal stabbing at an encampment in San Diego’s Morena neighborhood on Saturday, according to investigators.
According to the San Diego Police Department, officers and San Diego Fire-Rescue crews arrived just after 7:30 p.m. to multiple 911 calls reporting a stabbing in the 4700 block of Friars Road.
When first responders arrived, they found a 44-year-old guy with obvious stab wounds. The man was brought to a local trauma clinic, where he died of his injuries.
According to authorities, the victim and suspect knew each other. Authorities believe an incident broke out among many persons at the outdoor encampment before the stabbing.
SDPD’s Homicide Unit is in charge of the investigation, with detectives investigating the scene and interviewing witnesses to establish what caused the fatal occurrence.
During the investigation, officers discovered a person of interest, 29-year-old Michael Clark, and searched for him until the early morning hours.
Clark was apprehended by police near the 4800 block of Pacific Highway shortly before 1 a.m. on Sunday. He was taken to San Diego Police Headquarters for questioning before being lodged into the San Diego County Jail on accusations of murder and robbery.
The victim’s identity has not been disclosed at this time.
