Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut could face another severe heat wave in the coming days.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will surge into the 90s on Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs ranging from 93 to 98 degrees Fahrenheit in several regions. It will feel much hotter when humidity rises. This will raise heat indices to 98-103 degrees Fahrenheit on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Mid-level high pressure ridging will focus over the Central United States and extend into the Mid-Atlantic over much of next week, bringing largely hot and dry conditions to the Northeast.

Hot temperatures in the low to mid 90s are expected to return by mid-week, with some areas perhaps reaching 100 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The NWS may need to consider a period of hot headlines with dew points reaching into the mid- to upper 60s, resulting in heat indices in the top 90s for most of the forecast area each afternoon.

Rain chances will be modest during the time, as high pressure remains in control.

Temperatures could reach or exceed 90 degrees on Thursday, resulting in a heat wave.

Models continue to suggest an amplified upper-level trough around the end of the week, which might bring more rain and colder temperatures if the trend continues.
