A 21-year-old man has been detained and charged in connection with a motorcycle crash that killed two people on Sunday evening, July 12, in El Paso’s Lower Valley.
El Paso Police said David McCall, 21, was detained and charged with two counts of collision involving death.
McCall fled the scene on foot after the car he was driving collided with a motorcycle, killing the two individuals riding it, authorities said. The victims were identified as Alfredo De La Torre (44), and Miriam De La Torre (42).
The incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. on Sunday on Loop 375 West (Border Highway) near Yarbrough.
Special Traffic Investigations was dispatched to the scene. According to preliminary evidence, McCall lost control of his vehicle and collided with a motorcyclist on Loop 375.
Police reported that both occupants were ejected from the motorcycle and killed at the spot.
After the crash, McCall escaped on foot but was apprehended, according to authorities.
McCall was booked at the El Paso County Detention Center.

The GoFundMe site stated in part:
“Alfredo and Miriam De La Torre were the most selfless people, always welcoming everyone with open arms regardless of any situation. Yesterday, they were tragically killed in a motorcycle accident, leaving our family grieving beyond words. Alfredo and Miriam were the foundation of our family—loving, hardworking, and always putting others before themselves.”
According to a social media post, Alfredo and Miriam De La Torre worked for Tropicana Homes.
McCall pleaded guilty in 2024 to various criminal charges originating from a 2023 people smuggling case, according to court filings.
Court filings state that he led officers on a high-speed chase, ran many red lights, abandoned his car with people inside, and fled before being apprehended.
These convictions included many counts of people smuggling, fleeing arrest, and carrying a prohibited weapon. He received concurrent four-year sentences.
We have contacted the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to find out why he was freed.
These are the 27th and 28th road fatalities within the city borders, compared to 33 at the same time last year, police said.
