Authorities in Oklahoma City have detained several people in connection with an illegal gambling operation.

On July 14, about 6:30 a.m., officers from the Oklahoma City Police Department responded to a search warrant at a home near N.W. 23rd St. and May Avenue.

According to the probable cause affidavit, four people were found at a card gaming table. Investigators noticed several people… engaging in what seemed to be an organized Chinese-style gambling game before departing the room upon entering the house. The game, titled “Fighting the Landlord,” was played with playing cards and dice. A separate amount of US currency was placed near the gaming area in a basket away from the gaming table, appearing to serve as the house bank. According to the probable cause affidavit, all of the players owned considerable quantities of cash that appeared to be readily available for gambling.

Investigators say five persons attempted to flee from the back of the house but were all apprehended.

Authorities discovered two live card/dice game tables, a basket containing $140, a money counter, and $5,000 in US currency in one of the home’s bedrooms.

Chuansai Lin, the man who leases the house, told officers that he makes all of his money from legal gambling and part-time remodeling work. He also denied selling illegal narcotics or making a profit through gambling.

Chun Yan Fang, Kai Chen, Kang Zhen, Lin Qiming, and Xueqin Chen were detained on charges of common gambling and receiving proceeds from a violation of state statute.

Chuansai Lin and Yingjin Lin were detained on charges of running a gambling game and commercial gambling.
