Over £160 million in illegal drugs were captured at a single UK port in only one month.

On June 28, Border Force officers at Southampton Port uncovered 477 kilos of cocaine, worth £38 million, hidden behind banana pallets in a cargo container.

The Home Office said that a second container searched later that day yielded 530 kilograms of cocaine worth around £47 million.

On July 10, officers discovered another 960 kilograms of cocaine valued at £76 million.

Days later, 290 kilograms of cannabis worth £1.2 million were hidden within a hardwood flooring cargo.

Border Force captured 150 tons of illegal substances worth £2.6 billion in the fiscal year ending March 2025, a 40% increase over the previous year and a record.

Home Office Minister Jo White stated, “We are one step ahead of these disgusting criminal groups.

“Border Force has cost them tens of millions in less than a month.

“These substances fuel additional crime, damage lives, and cause misery in our communities.

“We will continue our relentless action to hit supply chains, protect the public and secure our borders.”

Lyn Sari, the chief of Border Force South Region, stated, “Every seizure we make is a defeat for organized crime.

“I would like to thank our dedicated officers, who work around the clock to prevent these drugs from reaching our streets and causing immense harms.”

“Border Force is working ever more closely with law enforcement partners in the UK and overseas to combat drug smuggling.”
