An Amber Alert remains active. Late Wednesday night, the Beaverton Police Department said 3-year-old Joshua Ovalles of Beaverton is still missing, though officers have located the vehicle they were searching for.
The update followed an earlier error by the Washington State Patrol, which incorrectly announced that Joshua had been found.
Authorities say someone last saw Joshua near SW Western Avenue and SW Beaverton Hillsdale Highway around 10 a.m. Tuesday.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP), Mari Cruz Martinez took Joshua. Martinez is Joshua’s non-custodial parent.
Beaverton police found the vehicle the two were believed to be traveling in, a white 2022 Mercedes GLB SUV with Oregon license plate “MAMIII,” in the original area in Beaverton.
Police said video footage shows Martinez walking toward SW Western Avenue and 5th Avenue in Beaverton. She was pulling a black wagon and wearing all black clothing.
OSP said Martinez has ties to the Cornelius and Beaverton areas.
Joshua is 3 feet tall and weighs 40 pounds. He has blond and brown hair and brown eyes.
Martinez is 39 years old. She stands 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighs 140 pounds, and has blonde hair and brown eyes.
Oregon State Police said she previously threatened to harm her children and may be armed with a firearm.
