A 54‑year‑old man from Gibsonton lost his life after a two‑vehicle crash early Saturday at the Gibsonton Drive and US‑41 intersection in Hillsborough County, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
Troopers said the crash happened around 3:45 a.m. on October 10, 2026. A 21‑year‑old Oregon resident living in Plant City was heading west in a Ford pickup on Gibsonton Drive when he ran a red light at the US‑41 intersection, colliding with a northbound Cadillac Escalade driven by the Gibsonton victim.
Emergency crews rushed both drivers to nearby hospitals, but the 54‑year‑old driver later succumbed to his injuries.
FHP troopers subsequently arrested the pickup driver, Pablo Mendez‑Leyva, and placed him in Orient Road Jail on charges of DUI manslaughter and unlicensed driving resulting in death.
