Waldorf man sentenced to prison after stealing over $195,000 in checks from USPS mailboxes

A Waldorf man was sentenced for stealing nearly $200,000 in checks from USPS mailboxes across Bethesda.

On October 21, the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office stated that Dominque James Miles would serve more than a year in prison for stealing multiple checks during a four-month period.

Miles’ sentence comes after he pled guilty to conspiracy to commit identity fraud to collect funds in excess of $100,000.

Between December 2022 and April 2023, Miles stole about $195,673.64 in checks from USPS mailboxes in the Bethesda region. Seven people were recognized as victims in the thefts.

The attorney’s office stated that Miles was unable to pay the checks. However, when police searched his Prince George’s County residence, they uncovered $30,000 in cash. Detectives also discovered a USPS “arrow key,” a master key used by mail carriers.

As part of the plea agreement, the 29-year-old handed over the money.

After finishing his sentence, the judge ordered Miles to serve five years of supervised probation.
