A cross-country pursuit ended in tragedy when a 21-year-old Florida man traveled hundreds of miles to locate a former classmate, ultimately shooting and killing the 18-year-old Girl Scout who stood in his path, according to police.
Travis Lovett remains held on a $10 million bond, facing charges of murder, aggravated burglary, and kidnapping.
According to prosecutors and local reports, Lovett had developed an obsessive fixation on a former high school classmate who had relocated from Florida to Ohio in search of safety, taking refuge at the Atwater Township home of 18-year-old Alice Tully.
On October 21, Lovett tracked his former classmate to her Ohio location. Upon his initial arrival at the residence, both women ordered him to leave and contacted authorities. He departed briefly, then returned, forced entry into the home, opened fire on Tully, and attempted to abduct his former classmate. Tully died at the scene. She had no prior acquaintance with Lovett before that morning.
Lovett fled the scene at high speed but was apprehended hours later by state troopers in Guernsey County.
Family members honored Tully through a GoFundMe campaign, describing her as an active Girl Scout on the verge of her adult transition ceremony , a fierce and selfless protector who lost her life placing herself between danger and a friend she sought to defend.
Lovett is scheduled to appear before a Portage County judge on November 10.
