An 18-year-old who was wanted in connection with a deadly stabbing in Boston’s South Station in August has been apprehended in Texas, officials said Saturday.
Marico Levy of Aubrey, Texas, surrendered at a Texas police station on Friday night, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Boston police sought Levy for murder after he reportedly stabbed 29-year-old Latavius Owens of Memphis, Tennessee, after a confrontation on the escalator from the Red Line station around 5:30 p.m. on August 12. Owens was transferred to a local hospital and died.
Levy was 17 years old when the attack took place.
In August, State Senator Nick Collins described the stabbing at rush hour at South Station as “very tragic and alarming”.
Boston Police Superintendent Paul McLaughlin told WBZ-TV at the time that he didn’t believe the incident was random.
There is no date scheduled for Levy’s arraignment. The DA’s office did not specify the accusations Levy will face.
Investigators have requested anyone who witnessed the event to contact Boston police with any information.
“There’s obviously, given the time of day, a number of witnesses, so anyone who knows anything about what may have happened … either before, during or after this altercation, we need you to contact the Boston Police Department,” DA Kevin Hayden said at the time.
