Two suspects accused of retail theft in Central Florida made a critical error on Monday , they returned to the very store they had robbed just hours before, walking directly into the presence of waiting detectives.
Alex Marcano Osorio, 25, and Genesis Nunez Rodriguez, 30, were taken into custody after entering an Ulta Beauty location at the Posner Park shopping center in Davenport, according to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. Investigators say the Venezuelan couple had earlier exited the store with a collection of stolen high-end fragrance bottles valued at $2,817. Store surveillance cameras captured the entire incident, providing detectives with a clear and detailed record of both individuals.
While deputies were still on-site reviewing security footage and speaking with store employees, the front door opened. Marcano Osorio and Nunez Rodriguez walked in, apparently intending to steal again.
“Our detectives who are the very best were following up, and when our detectives went to the store to do some more followup, guess who is walking in the store? Alex and Genesis,” Judd said. “They’re coming back to steal more stuff. So we said, ‘Stop in the name of the law.’ And we arrested them.”
Further investigation revealed that the Davenport incident represented only a portion of a broader criminal operation. Authorities connected the pair to at least six additional open retail theft cases across Florida, describing them as participants in a network that transported stolen merchandise to South America.
Because both individuals entered the country illegally, federal authorities became involved. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed detainers on both suspects at the Polk County Jail, ensuring federal custody in the event that either attempts to post bond.
Marcano Osorio and Nunez Rodriguez currently face felony grand theft charges, with organized retail crime counts also pending.
