Two men killed in a shooting early Sunday morning in East Chicago, Indiana, have been identified.
East Chicago police said officers were dispatched at 1:48 a.m. when ShotSpotter reported gunshots outside OJ’s Game Over bar on the 700 block of West 151st Street. The system detected 17 bullets fired, followed by another 15 seconds later at the same location.
Officers discovered two men laying on the ground, both holding semiautomatic handguns next to their bodies, authorities said.
Both individuals sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies. One was pronounced dead on the scene, while the other was transported to Powers Health St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, where he also died.
The victims’ families have named them as Marc Vidaurri, 35, and Michael Rodriguez, 20, both of East Chicago.
Police suspect another shooter is still at large, while the motivation is unknown. No respect was shown. That is a residential area. Several automobiles and homes were hit. And we know that someone witnessed something. East Chicago Police Chief Jose Rivera stated that customers were leaving the establishment while others were still inside. “We cannot do this alone. Our cops responded quickly, but we can’t be everyplace, so we know folks were present.
The incident was not the first time East Chicago Police Chief Jose Rivera’s staff looked into cases at the club.
Several open investigations continue. The damage and possibility for injury extended beyond the address. Homes have been damaged by gunshots, and cars are smashed but still driveable. Lisette Guillen reported seeing bullet-holed tires. “There was no respect for anyone on that block last night,” stated Andrew Holmes.
