Two young adults were killed and six others were injured when gunfire erupted inside a crowded Jackson nightclub hosting a Halloween party early Sunday morning, authorities said.
Officers arrived at the Hideaway Nightclub in the 5100 block of Interstate 55 North Frontage Road at 1:00 a.m. on November 1 to find a huge throng of teenage people gathered on the dance floor for a costume event.
The Jackson Police Department reported that eight people had been shot.
Lovdia Poindexter, 20, and Jada Henderson, 18, were both fatally injured and died at the scene. Next of kin has been contacted.
Six surviving victims were brought to nearby hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Investigators identified the injured as four ladies (ages 18, 19, and 20) and two men (ages 19 and 20).
Preliminary results show that two unidentified guys wearing ski masks entered the event just before the incident. At least one of the people pulled out a gun and fired directly into the throng.
The site was inspected by detectives from the JPD’s Robbery/Homicide Unit, who recovered several spent shot casings. Investigators are studying security footage and questioning witnesses to uncover a motive and identify the shooters.
