All officers remain safe following a shooting in the central valley that concluded with authorities apprehending a suspect wearing body armor, according to the head of the Las Vegas police officers’ union.
Authorities received the initial report at approximately 3:23 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Las Vegas Police Protective Association President Steve Grammas reports that one officer conducting proactive patrols near a wash by Harmon and Arville noticed a man behaving suspiciously. The man fled when the officer attempted to stop him.
During the pursuit, the suspect drew a gun and “brandished a firearm” at some point, which prompted the officer to discharge his weapon, Grammas explains.
The man continued running even after being shot.
The suspect wore body armor and seemed “prepared for an engagement,” Grammas states.
More officers arrived and deployed beanbag shotguns before authorities finally apprehended the man in a nearby parking lot.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police confirm the shooting occurred around 3:23 a.m. and that officers transported the man to a local hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Officers sustained no injuries.
Metro reports this marks the department’s fifth officer-involved shooting of 2026. Department policy requires the officer’s name to remain undisclosed for 48 hours.
LVMPD’s Force Investigation Team now oversees the case. Police encourage anyone with information to contact them or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers. Investigators working the scene may implement temporary road closures in the Harmon and Arville area.
