Federal officials say they have arrested a man accused of causing damage to the Eugene federal building during a Jan. 30 protest that police called a riot.

Soren Emery Polzin, 18, had his first appearance before a federal judge on Tuesday. He has been charged with depredation of federal property.

According to a news release from the US Attorney’s Office for Oregon, Polzin hammered on and kicked a building’s window until it cracked.

Federal officials did not immediately respond to KLCC’s concerns, and it is unclear who represents Polzin.

Separately, on January 27, a 37-year-old man was accused of assaulting a federal employee while protesting at the Eugene federal building.

Prosecutors allege that Ryan Bruce Gaither Jr. bit one federal officer and spit on another.

Gaither pleaded not guilty on Tuesday and was released pending the October trial.
