Virginia Man Sets Guinness World Record With 12,412 Pull-Ups in 24 Hours

A Virginia man has officially earned a Guinness World Records title after achieving a goal he spent years preparing for.

Twenty-two-year-old Xavier Dillard completed 12,412 pull-ups in 24 hours, setting a new world record.

“I spent every day training for pull-ups,” he said.

Dillard began the challenge at 10 a.m. Saturday and finished at 10 a.m. Sunday. He said the toughest part was fighting through the pain and exhaustion.

“Just not trying to quit … I could barely see; I was tearing up. I had blurry vision … I wanted this record so bad, I just had to keep going,” Dillard said.

Years of practice helped him reach the milestone. Dillard said he started training exactly two years ago with this record in mind.

“I just did pull-ups every single day. My biggest training week would probably be 2,400 pull-ups and four hours every day of the week, which ended up being 14,000 or 16,000,” he said.

Dillard said he was never considered a standout athlete growing up and even ranked among the slowest runners on his cross-country team. But once he started focusing on improving himself, he discovered he could achieve far more.

“I put in the effort. So, I guess my advice would be to just work on what you’re passionate about,” he said.
