Person arrested after allegedly bringing sword disguised as cane to Cincinnati City Council meeting

A person was arrested after allegedly bringing a sword disguised as a cane into a Cincinnati City Council meeting.

Police charged 29-year-old Alexandra Dalton, who goes by the nickname “Big Al,” with inducing panic, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest and disturbing a lawful meeting.

Dalton pleaded not guilty to the charges and was given a $22,000 bond.

Dalton was also ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device and stay away from the Centennial building and city hall.

Dalton’s attorney argued they likely would have left the meeting if police had not made the arrest.

However, prosecutors pointed to comments Dalton allegedly made during another meeting, including: “The people of Cincinnati will not back down, we have nothing left to lose. I’m willing to die for my people- are you?”

Prosecutors also referenced several of Dalton’s social media posts, including one that reportedly showed the sword hidden inside the cane.

Dalton allegedly told security the cane was needed because of a disability. Police said security officers did not realize the cane concealed a sword until Dalton addressed the council during public comment.

According to a sworn statement from Cincinnati Police Sgt. Kinnebrew, he approached Dalton about the weapon after they finished speaking, but “she began yelling and disrupting the city council meeting.”

Video captured by an eyewitness shows the moments leading up to the suspect’s arrest at Cincinnati City Hall.

“Can someone tell me what I’m being arrested for? Can someone please tell me? Please don’t let them take me … I didn’t do anything wrong,” Dalton is heard saying in a video captured by an eyewitness.

According to records, Dalton had been arrested multiple times since January, which prosecutors said showed escalation.

So far, the only charge they had been indicted on was vandalism.
