SUNLAND, LOS ANGELES – Two Los Angeles firefighters in Sunland suffered minor injuries Tuesday evening after a fire engine overturned in a chaotic crash captured on video.
The crash happened around 6:45 p.m. near 10500 N. Mcvine Ave., just south of Foothill Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Video footage shows the fire truck suddenly losing control before flipping onto its side. Officials said the firefighters were responding to a structure fire at the time of the crash.
Aerial footage from AIR7 showed the overturned fire engine resting against an H&R Block building, partially on top of a car. It remains unclear whether the building suffered major damage.
Another video showed a first responder being wheeled away on a stretcher after the crash.
The two injured firefighters were transported to a hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries. Officials said no other injuries were reported.
Los Angeles Police Department investigators are now working to determine what caused the crash.
Authorities said two parked vehicles were damaged, while a third car became pinned underneath the overturned fire engine.
Employees at a nearby Panda Express told Eyewitness News they were forced to evacuate following the collision.
As cleanup crews and investigators remained at the scene for hours, the restaurant and several other businesses along Foothill Boulevard between Mcvine and Oro Vista avenues had to shut down early for the night.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said it will not release the names of the injured firefighters until their families have been notified.
