Dozens of sports cars were removed from the Los Angeles River in the Cypress Park neighborhood Sunday evening.
The exact time of the incident remains unknown, but aerial footage captured around 7:20 p.m. showed a large collection of vehicles gathered in the riverbed near San Fernando Road. A single-file line of cars was seen exiting the riverbed, with some being loaded onto tow trucks.
Drivers at the scene told CBS LA they had gathered for a car meetup, with just over 100 vehicles present when LAPD officers arrived unannounced and informed them they were trespassing.
“There’s a trespassing sign that’s really small, you can’t read it,” said Alexander Pimienta, one of the attendees. “We weren’t doing anything illegal, we weren’t doing anything stupid. … They towed my motorcycle, they’re towing trucks, they’re towing over 50 cars.”
Additional video from the scene showed officers distributing what appeared to be citations or tickets, while some drivers were placed in handcuffs. No arrests have been reported so far.
CBS LA reached out to LAPD officials for comment but had not received a response at the time of reporting.
