The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reported that two Lake County men were arrested on Wednesday in unconnected events in the Florida Keys.
A 50-year-old Umatilla man was arrested in Marathon after deputies say he followed people around a Publix armed with a knife, alarming patrons.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were called to the store around 7 p.m. after multiple customers and an employee claimed that John Paul Roberts was making eye contact with customers and following them around the store and out to their cars for unknown reasons. Authorities stated Roberts was carrying a knife sheathed.
One customer reportedly fled the store, while another informed deputies Roberts was kicking and swatting hens outside.
The sheriff’s office reports that Roberts refused to identify himself or explain his conduct to deputies. Security footage verified witness testimony.
Roberts was arrested for stalking, disturbing the peace, and obstruction after failing to identify himself to law police.
In a separate incident, deputies detained a 49-year-old Mount Dora man after receiving reports of a disturbance on U.S. 1 near Mile Marker 106.
According to the sheriff’s office, callers reported seeing a shirtless male pull his pants down and expose himself to passing motorists. Deputies promptly found Jeremiah Michael Armsey, who reportedly gave a phony name.
Armsey was transferred to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier, where he received medical clearance before being transported to jail.
He was arrested for disturbing the peace and providing a false name to law officers.
