Cleveland man taken into custody after attempted kidnapping of 2-year-old in Lakewood

Lakewood city council members are alerting the community about an attempted kidnapping on Friday.

Lakewood City Council President Sarah Kepple and Councilman Matt Bixenstine confirmed Sunday that police responded to an attempted kidnapping on Friday.

According to Capt. Frank Eschweiler, police responded to a complaint at Madison Park regarding a 35-year-old Cleveland man attempting to grab a 2-year-old girl.

According to the Lakewood Police Department, the individual was dressed completely in black and was heading south.

Officers discovered the man and arrested him on abduction charges.

The Lakewood Police Department stated that the child is safe and unhurt and that the investigation is still underway.
