A mass shooting early Saturday in Maryland left six people injured, including two children, according to local authorities.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department said in a statement on X that patrol officers responded to an “unknown disturbance” at 4:40 a.m. in the suburban city of Hanover outside Baltimore, where they discovered a large crowd actively dispersing and a man with a gunshot wound to the torso.
EMS took the man to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
However, the violence spread swiftly.
Throughout the morning, police received notifications from three different area hospitals that multiple walk-in victims had arrived seeking treatment for gunshot wounds.
According to authorities, the five other walk-in patients included a lady with a gunshot wound to an extremity, two boys with lower extremity injuries, and a man and a woman with lower extremity injuries.
Authorities reported that all patients are receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Detectives are interviewing the victims to ascertain what happened during this incident,” the department stated. “This investigation is active, and further details will be released once the investigation concludes.”
It’s unclear whether any arrests had been made as of Saturday afternoon.
Hanover is located around 15 miles south of downtown Baltimore and 30 miles northeast of Washington, D.C.
