In a letter to Commissioner Michael Cox, Council Ed Flynn stated that Boston required a new comprehensive public safety plan.

“Boston is hardly the safest city in the nation. I’m proposing a public safety summit to address violence and crime in Boston. We must incorporate comments and perspectives from the public, local organisations, police, and first responders into this conversation and overall approach,” he stated.
