Man apprehended after shots fired at Rock Island tavern

Rock Island police responded to a tavern on the 2700 block of 5th Avenue for reports of shots being fired Saturday, July 4, at approximately 12:12 a.m.

According to police, officers discovered evidence of bullets fired at two spots on the Deanna’s Place pub site, as well as an inhabited vehicle damaged by gunfire. The fractured glass caused minor injuries to one of the occupants, but no additional injuries were reported.

At approximately 2 a.m., officers responded to a second complaint of shots fired in the 1200 block of 9th Street. Officers discovered a stolen vehicle that had been damaged by gunshots, impacted a parked vehicle, and was abandoned.

Damarkus Echols, 31 years old, has been named as the suspect. He was arrested and charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and possession of a controlled drug.

Echols was taken to the Rock Island County Jail for official charges.
