A Philadelphia man was detained at a safety checkpoint in town with a huge amount of drugs and a gun.
Ben Cooper, 44, of 10350 Road 537, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of paraphernalia, according to Philadelphia Police Chief Eric Lyons.
On Tuesday, July 2, PPD officers held a safety checkpoint on Beacon Street near Poplar Avenue. Lyons stated that at approximately 11 p.m., officers manning the checkpoint were approached by a car driven by Cooper.
During the incident, officers searched the vehicle and discovered 30 grams of methamphetamine and six grams of marijuana, Lyons stated. Officers also discovered a weapon in the car.
Cooper was detained and sent to jail, Lyons stated.
