A Streetsboro man who hit a 70-year-old family member in the head with a pallet and shoved her down stairs was sentenced to 13 to 18 years in prison on Monday.

Richard McNeal pled guilty in June to attempted murder and possessing guns while disabled.

The attack took place on April 20, 2025, at the 1600 block of Leslie Dr.

According to Streetsboro police, McNeal called 911 and reported that a woman had fallen down the stairs and required medical assistance; however, when medics came, they determined that her condition was not compatible with a fall.

Police responded and discovered that the victim had been “violently assaulted.”

The woman, who was in her 70s, was conscious and told officers what had happened, according to police.

McNeal allegedly struck the woman in the back of the head with a “heavy hand tool similar to a mallet or meat tenderizer” and pushed her down stairs when she attempted to flee.

“She had been struck several times causing critical injuries and defensive wounds,” police reported.

The woman, whose name has not been revealed, received treatment for significant injuries.
