A Wildwood man was detained after being stopped for narcotics and drug equipment.
An officer patrolling the Wildwood Splash Pad in Martin Luther King Jr. Park, located at 600 Walker Rd., noticed 35-year-old Donovan Eugene Brown backing into a parking space at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. His black Nissan sedan looked to have window tint far below the permissible limit.
Shortly after the officer parked near the concession stand, the vehicle pulled away and began driving west through the park. The officer then initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of County Road 213 and Northeast 69th Avenue. He also checked the window tint, which was significantly below the permitted level, according to the report.
When asked for his documents, Brown sweated profusely, trembled, and appeared exceedingly frightened. He admits to having some cannabis and a few pieces of weed. The report stated that the officer discovered some loose marijuana in the center console area.
The officer then instructed Brown to get out of the vehicle. He disobeyed the command and reached for the center console and front passenger seat. He did not obey when requested to exit the vehicle again, so the officer reached inside and manually unlocked the door, according to the report.
Brown finally walked out, allowing the officer to handcuff him. He faced the truck but tried to turn around, asking if he could contact his “mama.” Despite his active resistance by refusing to step forward, the officer handcuffed and took him to a patrol vehicle, according to the report.
Brown refused again, refusing to stretch his feet when instructed. He kept insisting that he did nothing. He stood up straight and attempted to face the officer, who ordered him to cease moving. According to the report, the officer had to use his right hand in the middle of Brown’s back to lean him against the patrol car and keep him from moving forward.
However, he then turned and attempted to flee. As Brown attempted to get away, the officer firmly held his right arm with both hands. He raced in circles until the officer redirected him to the ground, rolled him on his tummy, and kept him there. When more cops came, he was thrown in the back of the patrol cruiser, according to the report.
A search of his vehicle ensued. In the center console, the officer discovered 0.6 grams of loose marijuana nuggets and a partially lit marijuana cigaret. Under the radio was a digital scale with a cover depicting two individuals sitting on a sofa and sharing what appeared to be a marijuana cigaret to each other. The investigation stated that the scale had drug residue.
The front passenger seat held a canvas container with the same cover as the digital scale. Inside, there was found a grinder and other drug paraphernalia. The report also mentioned a little clear cellophane package containing 0.3 grams of fentanyl.
According to the report, between the center console and the front passenger seat was a kitchen steak knife, a cigaret containing 0.8 grams of fentanyl, and another small cellophane bag containing a white powdered material.
Brown then asserted that the entire vehicle belonged to him. Flakka was the white powder in the cellophane bag, which he smoked with tobacco cigarettes. He was at the park’s splash pad to smoke the Flakka, according to the report.
When he was pulled over, he attempted to conceal the narcotics from law authorities. According to the report, he repeatedly stated that everything was his and that this was “God’s way” of getting him back on track after he had strayed from it.
Brown was detained on allegations of fentanyl possession, marijuana possession (less than 20 grams), drug equipment possession or use, evidence destruction, and nonviolent resistance to an officer. He was booked into the Sumter County Detention Center, and bond was set at $8,000.
