A Lake Panasoffkee man wanted for violence flipped off a cop, who tracked him down and arrested him.
A deputy on patrol noticed 30-year-old Christopher Lee Bryant riding a bicycle without lights northbound on County Road 470 in Lake Panasoffkee in the early hours of Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
When the officer attempted to stop him, Bryant performed a U-turn in the road. The deputy then activated a siren, prompting Bryant to raise a finger, return his gaze, and point to the Sunoco on County Road 470. He then drove into the parking lot and accelerated in an attempt to avoid the traffic stop, according to the report.
He continued to ride out of the parking lot and toward the back of the building, where there was a dimly lit forested area. As he attempted to avoid the deputy, he quickly smashed his bicycle near the woods. He got up and ran into the woods, according to the report.
During this moment, the deputy instructed Bryant to stop, but he did not comply. The deputy tracked him through the woods until he gave up, according to the report.
According to the report, Bryant had an active Sumter County warrant for two counts of battery and two charges of battery on a person 65 or older.
Bryant was detained on counts of fleeing or eluding police and resisting arrest without violence, in addition to the warrant. He was booked into the Sumter County Detention Center without bond.
