Police say at least nine individuals were injured on Monday amid different acts of violence along the West Indian American Day Parade route – before, during, and after the festivities.
Six people were injured in knife attacks, with the remaining three victims of gun violence. Police expect all of the victims to recover.
The first incident took place shortly after 5:45 a.m. near Utica Avenue and Carroll Street. According to investigators, four individuals aged 20 to 36 received stab wounds to the face, neck, or chin.
Then, about 6 a.m. on Eastern Parkway, police say a 25-year-old male was slashed in the face.
The parade began at 11 a.m., with the next incident occurring about 4 p.m. Police said a 24-year-old male was shot at 800 Nostrand Avenue. According to the NYPD, a person of interest was arrested and a pistol was found at the site.
Around five minutes later, and half a mile distant, a 37-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man were shot at Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue. The mother was shot in the leg, while the teen sustained grazing wounds on both legs. Police said they are looking for two people who fled the scene.
Just after 5:30 p.m., police arrived to Brooklyn Avenue and Eastern Parkway, where they reported a 32-year-old man had been stabbed in the leg.
Shots rang out around a half hour later near 1572 Pitkin Ave. Nobody was hurt in that incident.
Police are investigating the series of violent incidents.
There have been no arrests in any of the occurrences from Monday nite.
