1 dead and 3 injured after shooting at youth football championship game

One person died and three others were injured after a shooting at a youth football championship game Sunday night, authorities said.

The shooting occurred at Madison Senior High School around 9:50 p.m., during an unconnected football game.

The three injured victims were transported to local hospitals, while the fourth died on the scene.

The shooting is being investigated by Greater St. Louis’ Major Case Squad. Law enforcement is asking witnesses and anybody else with information to come forward.

“Someone in that audience seen, recorded, or overheard something since. “We are asking those people to come forward,” said Lt. Andrew Pierson, the Major Case Squad’s public relations officer. “You do not have to have the whole story, a single photo, a short video, or one detail you think is insignificant may be exactly what moves this investigation forward.”

The school system canceled Monday lessons and said that they would resume on Wednesday.

The district issued a statement saying that it “is deeply saddened by the shooting” and that, while the game was neither organized or sponsored by the district, “this violence affects our entire school community.”

Counseling and support services will be provided to kids and staff.

Authorities encourage anybody with information to call the command post at 618-709-7750 or CrimeStoppers at 866-371-8477.
