Man sentenced to prison for stabbing Bronx mother 22 times

A man was sentenced for stabbing a Bronx mother 22 times in March 2025, according to Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark.

Prosecutors Christopher Joseph, 23, will serve 8 1/2 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision for assaulting Kaitlynn Berman inside her house while her 3-year-old daughter was only a room away.

According to the District Attorney’s office, an order of protection was imposed during Friday’s sentencing, prohibiting Joseph from contacting Berman, who formerly considered her assailant a friend.

Joseph’s trial date was originally scheduled for June 2026 but was delayed due in part to the Bronx Defendants Strike. Joseph pled guilty to second-degree attempted murder on September 16.

During his guilty hearing, Joseph admitted to attempting to kill Berman during the savage kitchen knife attack that left her practically blind and with irreversible nerve damage on the right side of her face.

On December 10, 2025, Judge Darlene Goldberg freed Joseph on his own recognizance, without bail, after the D.A. failed to fulfill a critical deadline to set bail.

The district attorney’s office told News 12 that they wanted Joseph’s cash bail set at $1 million.

News 12 spoke with Berman several times, including six months after Joseph’s release, as she waited for the trial to begin.

“I don’t go outside by myself,” Berman explained. “I just feel like something is going to happen every time I’m outside.”

Prosecutors earlier stated that they were seeking a 10-year prison sentence followed by five years on parole.

Berman voiced anger with the suggested punishment. “Twenty-two years sounds fair,” Berman replied. “I feel like 10 years that they’re trying to offer is not enough.”

Christopher was sentenced on Wednesday. The defendant was invited into the house of the victim, a woman he knew. “He stabbed her over a dozen times while her daughter was in the next room,” DA Clark stated. “Fortunately, the victim survived this horrific assault. With this sentence, I hope she can recover from this life-altering experience.
