A long-anticipated community center aimed at supporting local youth and families has officially opened in Springfield.
The Thurston Life Foundation unveiled its new space this week, offering professional counseling services and gathering areas designed to address rising rates of depression and anxiety among young people.
“The mission statement for Thurston Life Foundation is helping youth and families navigate life,” said Ron Sauer, chairman of the board. “We really wanted to live that out through the structure that’s built. This space reflects those values, where people can come together and experience connection and growth.”
Four local organizations and businesses have partnered to support the center: Track Town Pizza, Washburne Cafe, Northlight Counseling, and Thurston Young Life.
Christine McAndrews, capital campaign director, said the center will serve as both a joyful gathering place and a resource hub for families navigating life’s challenges.
“It’s going to be a spark of joy, but also a place for growth,” McAndrews said. “That’s something I’m passionate about, and I know the community is too.”
Springfield Mayor Sean VanGordon led the grand opening celebration, which included a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The milestone marks the culmination of a project that has been in development since 2010.
“I have a lot of pride in this community,” VanGordon said. “Springfield is special because we can get great things done when we work hard to move our community forward every single day.”
Organizers say the new center is intended to be a vibrant, welcoming space where residents can connect, celebrate and grow together.
