A high-speed police incident in Portland ended dramatically when a wrong-way driver fled officers and crashed into the Willamette River early Monday morning.
Driver Flees Police at High Speed
According to the Portland Police Bureau, officers spotted a vehicle traveling the wrong way through downtown streets just after 2 a.m.
When police attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver accelerated and fled at a high rate of speed.
Vehicle Plows Through Waterfront Park
Authorities said the suspect drove into Tom McCall Waterfront Park before losing control and crashing into the Willamette River.
The chaotic sequence prompted an immediate emergency response, including search efforts in the water.
One Person Hospitalized
Police confirmed that one individual involved in the crash was taken to a nearby hospital. Officials have not clarified whether the injured person was the driver or a passenger, nor have they released details about their condition.
