Eugene woman faces attempted arson charges in Newport state office building case

On This Post

A Eugene woman is facing attempted arson charges after police in Newport say she tried to set fire to a building that houses several state government offices.

Police say 45-year-old Bridgette Sherman, of Eugene, was found standing near an empty gasoline can that had been poured onto the building on NE Avery Street, with a burnt cigarette discovered in the fuel.

Authorities say Sherman works for the Oregon Department of Human Services, which operates an office inside that building.
