EUGENE, Ore. – A man is facing arson charges after police say he sparked an explosion and fire at his mother’s home while illegally producing marijuana dabs last November.
Police allege that Derek David Davia caused the explosion in the garage of a home located on the 3900 block of River Road. When investigators arrived, they discovered more than a dozen propane tanks, marijuana buds, and a strong marijuana odor. One man was taken to the hospital.
Authorities said Davia fled the scene before firefighters and officers arrived. He later called 911 from a few blocks away after suffering injuries and was transported to the hospital. According to court documents, Davia told police he had been making marijuana dabs using butane when the explosion occurred.
Davia now faces a charge of first-degree arson tied to the manufacture of a controlled substance. Officials filed a warrant for his arrest in Lane County Circuit Court on Thursday.
